Value for Money
The Avon 3D Supersport is Avon’s sportiest hypersport tire, designed for aggressive road riding. Avon also claims the 3D Supersport is sporty enough to be used at beginner‑level trackdays. How the tire performs on twisty roads is exactly what we uncovered in our detailed review.
Table of Contents
Note: We mounted the 3D Supersport directly after the ContiAttack SM 2. Since the SM 2 is currently one of the sharpest weapons in the supermoto world, this allowed us to make a direct comparison in terms of pure sport performance. These impressions also translate well to many other motorcycles, because handling and lean‑angle behavior can be evaluated extremely precisely on a supermoto.

Avon 3D Supersport Review
The Avon 3D Supersport is a hypersport tire developed for both road and occasional track use, offering riders exceptional grip, handling, and stability. It is ideal for riders who primarily ride on the street but enjoy the occasional trackday.
Compared to its predecessor, the 3D Ultra Evo, the 3D Supersport features a completely new tread pattern, shifting the tire slightly toward the more aggressive end of the hypersport segment to meet the demands of modern superbikes and sport motorcycles.
Whether the Avon 3D Supersport can truly convince is what we clarify in detail in this full test.
Price info: A set costs approx.
- €220 for supermotos
- €230 for naked bikes and supersports
- €230–240 for superbikes
This makes it significantly cheaper than many competitors, which often cost €280–320 per set.
Grip on Dry Roads
The Avon 3D Supersport offers excellent warm‑up behavior.
- Heats up quickly
- Maintains temperature reliably
- Hardly any difference between cold and warm grip
Grip levels are high. Even under hard acceleration on the supermoto, the rear tire remained composed. Front‑end grip is confidence‑inspiring and of high quality.
On the GasGas SM 700, we noticed slight front‑end sliding tendencies at extreme lean angles in a hanging‑off riding style. However, during aggressive supermoto “pushing” around tight hairpins, we could not provoke any loss of grip.
This suggests the tire’s carcass construction may not be optimized for extremely light motorcycles — the issue disappeared when more weight was placed on the front via the handlebars. Increasing front tire pressure solved the issue.
Grip on Wet Roads
The 3D Supersport does not fail in the wet, but we rode more cautiously. Confidence was somewhat lacking, but the tire is absolutely safe for normal road use. In very deep standing water, we would be more careful due to the relatively low tread ratio.
Braking Characteristics
Braking performance is very good.
- Strong braking grip front and rear
- Stable, predictable deceleration
- ABS rarely activated, even during aggressive riding
- High confidence on the brakes
Overall, the Avon 3D Supersport inspires trust during braking.
Riding Comfort
The Avon 3D Supersport is surprisingly comfortable. It is not a harsh or wooden‑feeling tire.
- Good inherent damping
- Performs well even on poor road surfaces
- No comfort issues during testing
Some riders reported harsh impacts with very high tire pressures, but with typical supermoto pressures, we did not experience this.
Tire Wear
Wear on the Avon 3D Supersport is relatively high. Even on cooler days and moderately sporty riding, we observed:
- noticeable tearing / abrasion
- visible wear patterns
- clear signs of the different compound zones
The tire uses:
- a hard center compound with a continuous slick strip for durability
- softer compounds on the lower shoulders, where typical wear stripes were visible
Mileage
On the GasGas SM 700, the Avon 3D Supersport achieved around 4,000 km under sporty use — typical for semi‑slick hypersport tires.
New tread depth:
- Front: approx. 4.0–4.2 mm
- Rear: approx. 6.0 mm
Riding Stability / Cornering Stability
The Avon 3D Supersport is wonderfully stable.
- Excellent behavior when “pushing” the bike
- Very stable in long, fast corners
Only at very deep lean angles did we find it slightly nervous — likely due to the supermoto’s geometry rather than the tire itself.
Overall, stability is very good.
Agility / Turn‑in Behavior
The Avon 3D Supersport is agile and sharp‑turning.
- Quick, precise turn‑in
- Holds the intended line reliably
- Never feels nervous
It clearly belongs to the agile hypersport category.
Uprighting Tendency
The Avon 3D Supersport showed no uprighting tendency on the GasGas SM 700.
- Completely neutral when braking at lean
- Does not fall into the corner after releasing the brake
Uprighting behavior is perfect.
Tire Pressure
The Avon 3D Supersport requires the correct pressure on a supermoto. After extensive testing, we found the ideal cold pressures for light bikes:
- Front: 2.1–2.3 bar cold
- Rear: 1.9–2.0 bar cold
(Values without guarantee; always follow manufacturer recommendations. These values apply specifically to supermotos.)
Avon 3D Supersport Experiences
The Avon 3D Supersport is an affordable tire that impressed us immediately. Even in direct comparison with the supermoto king, the ContiAttack SM 2, the Avon performed surprisingly well. While it doesn’t quite reach the absolute top level of the SM 2, it performs on par with tires like the Michelin Power, Diablo Rosso, and similar hypersport models. We also liked the tire’s appearance — the continuous slick strip looks sporty, and even the 160 rear appears noticeably wide. Overall, the Avon 3D Supersport is an excellent hypersport road tire, offering strong performance and an attractive price.
